The Boston Raptors ‘99/‘98 Bantam’s playoff run began on Sunday night with a 3-2 overtime win over Top Gun. Trevor LaChance scored only 27 seconds into the overtime period to give the Raptors their quarterfinal win. Billy Fairweather and David Zinland scored the other Raptors goals.
The top seeded Malden/East Boston Tornados were up next for the Raptors. After two evenly played periods the teams entered the third period tied 2-2. It was all Raptors from there as they scored 3 unanswered goals to beat the Tornados 5-2 and advance to the Championship Game against the Valley Jr. Warriors. Kyle Coop scored 2 goals while Eugene Yoon played outstanding defense and had 2 assists for the Raptors. Other Raptor goal scorers were Xander Maurogiannis (1-1-2), Gino Ramasci and Zinland. Greg Mattuci and Connor Power were also credited with assists.
The Raptors ‘99/’98 Bantam Team finished their championship run by beating the Valley Jr. Warriors 3-2 in a shootout Tuesday night to win the Valley Spring League Bantam Championship. The Raptors were trailing 2-1 in the third period when Billy Fairweather scored with only 5:52 left to force the game into overtime.
After a scoreless overtime period, Eugene Yoon scored the only goal during the shootout, while Raptors’ goalie Kris Augustine stopped all shooters he faced, to give the Bantams an exciting shootout win and the Valley Spring League Bantam Championship. Raptors’ goalie, Augustine, was outstanding throughout the playoffs allowing only 2 goals in each of the three playoff games.
