5 Different Raptors Score As Midgets Win Silver In Come From Behind Thriller At New England Summer Classic Tournament

On Sunday afternoon the Boston Raptors Midget team faced the Lawrenceville Flames from New Jersey in the Silver Division Championship Game of the New England Summer Classic Tournament held this past weekend at the New England Sports Center in Marlboro, Mass. The two teams met earlier in the tournament and tied 3-3 so the Championship Game was expected to be a thriller of a game.

The Championship Game lived up to all expectations. The Flames took a 2-0 lead after 2 periods. The Raptors then scored 3 unanswered goals in the first five minutes of the third period to take their first lead of the game, 3-2. After the Raptors scored their fourth unanswered goal of the period and went up 4-2, the Flames called a time out in an attempt to slow down the Raptors momentum.

Following the timeout the Flames drew a penalty and scored a quick power play goal to close the gap to one at 4-3. The timeout proved fruitful as only one minute later the Flames knotted it at 4 when they knocked in a rebound off the Raptors goalie.

With the game tied at 4 and only 2:30 left in the game, the Raptors’ Sean Foran ripped a snap wrist shot top far side to beat the Flames Goalie for the go ahead goal and the eventual game winner. Assists on the game wining goal went to Joe Penatta and Max Whitmyer. Five different Raptors scored in their exciting come from behind 5-4 Championship Game victory. The Raptors other goal scorers were Justin Panetta, Phil Garcia, Mitchell Buckley, and Joe Tocio.

The Raptors had a great team effort and played well throughout the tournament as they went 2-1-1 in the tournament. The goalie tandem of Matt Brown and Nick Serafini were outstanding in all tournament games.
