Sunday afternoon the Raptors' Bantam team was defeated 5-2 by Boston Strong. Boston Strong shot the puck early and often netting 5 goals with penalties being the Achilles heel for the raptors in this one. One bright spot for the bantams was on their first power play when Raptors' defenseman Kenny Mills passed cross ice to Brett Marx whose shot from the blue line was tipped in by forward Jared English for in his first goal of the season. Another focal point was the Raptors line of Ryan Parisi, Ryan Roberge, and English which had several scoring opportunities only to be met by great goaltending by Boston Strong. Raptors second goal was scored by Chris Mills assisted by Mike Mazzei.
The Raptors will attempt to get back on the winning track Friday night when they face-off with the Rebels at 7:10 pm in Lawrence.

The Boston Raptors Bantam Team got their season started Thursday night with a 3-1 win over the Methuen Rangers. The first period was a stalemate as both teams struggled to find an offensive spark. After some line juggling by Coach Brad Thompson, the Raptors found the offensive edge. With an assist by Spencer Pava, Mike Mazzei opened up the scoring 3 minutes into the second period with a shot from the lower circle to put the Raptors up 1-0. The Raptors kept the offensive pressure going taking 13 shots in the second period while keeping Methuen’s shots to a minimum.
Late in the second period the Raptors scored two more goals only 48 seconds apart. Raptors forward Deigo Corona scored his first goal of the season, and the eventual game winner, from what seemed to be an impossible angle. With a Rangers’ defender in his face, Corona shot from along the goal line and snuck it behind the goalie to put the Raptors up 2-0. Only 48 seconds later, Pava took a pass in the Raptors’ defensive zone from Mazzei and took it all the way up the ice and past the Methuen goalie to give the Raptors a 3-0 lead.
The Raptors Played solid defense all night. Raptors’ goalie Raphy DeCarlucci lost his shutout bid when the Rangers found the back of the net with exactly 1:00 remaining in the game for the final 3-1 win for the Raptors.
The Bantams next contest is this Sunday at 4:00 pm in Lawrence against the Boston Strong.

Looking to set the tone for 2013 Valley Spring League, the Raptors’ Pee Wee team turned in a dominating performance in their season opener on Saturday morning against the Beverly Panthers in route to an 8-0 win. David Bazile opened the scoring late in the first period when he snapped a hard wrist shot from the top of the face-off circle, cleanly beating the Panthers’ goalie to the glove side at the 2:44 mark.
The Raptors carried the momentum into the second period, striking early and often. Matt Soucy netted his first of two goals on the day at the 11:28 mark, finishing a beautiful 2-on-1 rush, courtesy of a nice feed from Bazile with Aedan Grenham picking up the second assist on the goal. The Panthers goalie kept the Raptors at bay, including a glove save on Jake Reilly worthy of a larceny charge, for the next 5 minutes, until Marco Javamillo slid a fake-pass-and-deke backhander past the keeper.
The Raptors defensive corps, had a great game at both ends of the ice, and got some scoring production of their own later in the period when Justin Heintz stepped into the slot and buried a 15-footer to put the Raptors up 4-0. Liam Brophy notched the loan helper on this one. Aaron Thibodreu tallied his first of the 2013 campaign less than 30 seconds later, with an assist from Alex VerColen, to cap a four goal 2nd period.
Looking to make his mark in the ever-important first minute of the period, Reilly opened the scoring at 11:15 of the 3rd period with a nice backhander from the slot. Soucy nabbed his second goal of the day a few minutes later with another great move and highlight-reel worthy goal. Not to be outdone, Javamillo capped the scoring with his own second tally of the game late in the final period.
Raptors net minder Anthony Couzzo saved his best for last, turning back a couple great scoring chances by the Panthers in the waning seconds of the game to preserve his first shutout of the season.
All in all, a great team performance by the Raptors who now turn their attention to next Wednesday night when they travel to Malden for a 6:10 pm game against the Medford Mavericks.
